There was always someone to talk to or help when needed. They taught me how to fight my anxiety every day.

What is Jubilee House?

Couchiching Jubilee House was founded as a supportive housing program located in Orillia, Ontario.

Established in the year 2000, the concept of Couchiching Jubilee House emerged when community groups gathered to address the pressing need for supportive housing for young women and their children within the Orillia community. In March 2001, Couchiching Jubilee House was officially incorporated as a charitable organization. That same year, the doors opened for four fully furnished apartments.

Today, and as a part of Redwood since 2022, Jubilee House offers more than simply housing. This is a community supporting women to reach their full potential and realize their dreams. Everyone deserves the opportunity to live a dignified and fulfilling life, and we are committed to offering safe, affordable, hopeful housing where people can thrive in supportive community.

In 2022, Jubilee House became part of Redwood Park Communities. We are pleased to build on the good work and reputation of Couchiching Jubilee House as we establish a presence in Orillia to help meet the affordable housing needs in the community.

Supportive Housing & Outreach Services

Jubilee House offers four furnished apartments for women and their children. On-site support helps residents set and meet goals for their future housing and life more broadly. Staff and volunteers also help foster inclusive community and make connections to resources that will help the women living at Jubilee House achieve their goals.

In addition to the four apartments, Jubilee House also offers outreach services, including bus passes, Good Food Boxes, and a variety of programs to foster community and provide opportunities to try out new skills and experiences.

In 2023, 4 women and their 9 children lived at Jubilee House, and another 17 women and their 25 children were supported through the Outreach Program. This included the distribution of 177 Good Food Boxes and 58 bus passes and the facilitation of 37 skill-building and therapeutic programs.

Who lives at Jubilee House?

Our residents are women and children who are prioritized through the County of Simcoe’s Coordinated Access System waitlist. Many families who stay with us or are supported through our outreach program have faced unique experiences like homelessness, precarious housing, domestic violence, substance use disorders, mental health challenges, systemic discrimination, family or relationship breakdown, and complex trauma.

Impact

Jubilee provided a safe, affordable environment with many supports for my child and myself. They provided counselling, help with medical costs for therapy for my child, and many other things that helped us during our difficult times. When I finally got into subsidized housing, they helped with appliances and still provide help today with counselling, therapy and other things. Jubilee was a huge help during our time of need and continues to help us today.
